Hi Dave

She's looking good mate. Today I have been painting out mouldy lockers - fancy a swap? Oh and managed a coat of anti-fouling between the showers. Unfortunately it looks like rain stops play till the end of the week at least. Might get a few inside jobs done if the surveyor can make it down to the yard, recover helm seat refit cooker etc etc.

Cheers

Martin

Hi guys.

Still waiting for my new boat but she isn't too far away now.

Sorcerer 11 was launched last week, but has a few completion jobs before handover.

Today we went on sea trials and I was over the moon with her performance.  With FULL fuel tanks holding 1610 litres, full water tank, a  9kw generator equivalent to three adults weight, four people and loads of other stuff like toolboxes and tools on board that will be removed, she achieved 29.8 knots. She will easily cruise at 22 knots and 25 comes well inside the 10% of maximum revs.

She is very smooth and quiet too.

The side doors make access on and off easy as we get older!!!

I enclose a couple of photo's, but the doors were due to be fitted later this afternoon.

Due any day soon!!

Cheers.

Dave

She looks absolutely stunning Dave, I bet you are choughed to bits with her. A good turn of speed too.

Hope you get lots of time on the water to enjoy her.

All the best

Hi Martin, Geoff and anyone else that is still on here.

New boat was finally handed over last Saturday and I brought her home from Plymouth to Brixham in the late afternoon.

On the final stretch I briefly gave her full throttle and was amazed to see 30.8 knots hit. I never expected anything like that!

I am very impressed by how stable she was at speed, she was also quiet and smooth, but I would imagine the five bladed props help in the smoothness.

The props have considerable bite too and on sea trial she hit 20 knots from rest, in just under eight seconds.

Now I know Lochins aren't speed boats, but they are very capable of speed too, but you need a lot of power in the first place.

As we travel to fish distant wrecks, the speed means we can get there quickly and spend more time catching fish....hopefully!!

Tomorrow the first trip is planned, hope we can christen her with some fish.

Cheers.

Dave

Hi Dave

Fantastic news. Really pleased you like the new boat she sounds absolutely perfect. Hope you get plenty of fish on your trips away, it will be good to see a catch report sometime, and of course some pics. Fishing here is just starting to pick up, we got our first mackerel about 3 w eeks ago and the pollack and coalies are coming on now too. Yesterday we had a mini lumpsucker on a piece of floating garbage we picked out of the sea - dont see many of those around here.

Hope you get plenty time on your boat in the summer and tight lines

Martin

Looks like it was designed by a committee LOL I am sure it will do the job - till the next gale anyway. Hope you are managing to get plenty of time on Sorcerer II and catch loads of fish. LJ is working hard, we are out and about every day and coming up to our second engine service of the season. Not done any fishing charters yet, just too busy with the wildlife trips but we have been out a few times for ourselves and caaught plenty.

How much are you paying for fuel? My last bulk tank fill of 900 litres was at 0.67p per litre for commercial red diesel which is the cheapest I have seen it for over 5 years! There has to be a catch. I have been checking fuel consumption lately and we are averaging 8 litres per hour at normal cruising speed, not bad at all.

Cheers

Martin

Hi Martin.

The cover did its job of keeping seagull sh.t off the deck while it was repainted with flow coat.

There was a patch that had been touched in after a spillage and it never matched properly so my builder did the whole deck again. Looks much better now.

Been out on a few trips recently, had Pollack to around 12lb, cod, similar and Ling around the 18lb mark.  Nothing huge, but welcome.

The engines are bedding in nicely and I am really pleased with how she goes, although I always knew she would burn fuel!!  The computer gives me an indication of the fuel used for a given engine speed and at 30 knots we are using around 130 litres an hour (GULP), or we would be if I ran her at that speed, which of course I don't.

I usually run between 20and 22 knots which burns around the 85-90 litres an hour mark.

As my boat is for pleasure purposes I have to pay the extortion rate. I cant exactly remember what my marina is charging, but around £1.12 a litre I believe, so not cheap on 1600 litre fill ups!!!!!

Sounds like LJ is earning her keep well with all the wildlife trips and at just 8 litres an hour, that's really good..... I could probably make it to the end of Brixham breakwater on that.no

There are huge pods of dolphins around at the moment. We saw one a couple of weeks ago that must have been a third of a mile long and they were on a mission going somewhere at speed. They passed us by and just kept coming for ages.....lovely to see.

Hope the weather stays good for your trips and I hope you can get some fishing in as well.

Cheers.

Dave
