Return of the Tuna

Just last week a boat working out of Leverburgh that takes trips out to St Kilda encountered a group of blue fin tuna hunting around shoals of herring.

Fantastic news that these fish have been seen and identified at last. I have heard anecdotal reports in the past regarding large dark shapes moving quickly through the water and there was a blue fin  washed up on Mull last year.

For a full report and details go to Kilda cruises facebook page. Might have to pay them a visit myself!

Hope everyone is managing to get some boating done, it is forecast to be settled here this week and will probably be our last busy week. Been doing a bit of fishing ourselves lately with good catches of pollack and coalie. Not going to rush to get the boat out of the water this year, we are going to try and get some painting done to save time for next year.

Cheers

Martin

HI Martin.

Yes we have been having them down this way too and reportedly a shore angler caught one.

Be nice to be able to go out and catch some tuna for a change, especially some bigunsbiggrin

We too have had some good catches of Pollack and Ling recently, nothing huge but the Ling have been around in numbers to 25lb plus. Haven't seen a coalfish in years, but we are hoping for some big cod soon!!

They say we are heading for an Indian summer, so I expect you can make good use of LJ for some time yet!

Have you had any more 'campers' on LJ?

New boat still on-going and still on course for around Christmas time.

Regards.

Dave

Hi Dave

A 25lb ling would be a nice diversion we only get them just into double figures. Got a trip planned for Saturday and going to try some new ground away west and south of here. It gets dark early these days and coming home in the dark can be a pain with all the creel floats about.

Not going to rush and get the boat out of the water this year so if the indian summer materialises we should get out a fair bit.

Good news with the new boat, have you got the mouldings yet?

No more camping planned for this year.

Cheers for now

Martin

HI Martin.

Hope your planned trip to new ground proves fruitful......virgin wrecks would be nice, but I doubt there is anything left to find nowadays!  The weather doesn't look too good here at the weekend unfortunately either.

Same here, with pots everywhere and markers on ropes too short so they pull under and just about break surface every once in a while. Even when they do break surface, half the time they are covered in weed, so barely noticeable anyway until you are on top of them!  Moan over.

Mouldings are in Plymouth and Blue water boats are progressing with the fit out. I haven't been down to see the new boat for a while so will probably go down tomorrow, but they do assure me it will be ready xmas time!

Will post some photo's soon.

Good luck with your trip.

Regards.

Dave
