End of season

HI Folks

Well that's it for me and LJ this year. Normally I leave her in the water till the end of October, this year I took her to Balvicar before we went on our hols and guess what, since we came home the weather has been fantastic! Oh well can't get it right all the time.

Hope everyone else has had a good season, we were fortunate to get really good weather this year which helped a lot, I know the rest of the UK didn't fare so well.

LJ ''parked'' so the engine can be removed and new one fitted, no final decisions yet, still waiting for a couple of people to get back to me then I can finally decide. I am also going to strip the rudder shaft and assembley this winter, I think the packing has gone dry and hard and needs changing, I will also be fitting a rudder angle indicator to help the autopilot and changing the steering   ram. A good sort out while the engine bay is empty won't go amiss either - plenty to get on with.

Cheers all

Martin

HI Martin.

I think everyone's busy with their boats as it has been quiet for a while!

Glad you had a good season, hasn't been quite so good down here. I haven't been out on the boat now for nearly six weeks. The weather nas been rubbish when I could have gone and good when I can't.....just need the two to marry up!!!!

I hope the weather stays good for you with your projects on 'Lady Jane'!  Any idea which way your going to go with new engine yet? With the engine out you will have so much more room to sort everything else out, but I hope you don't find anything you hadn't bargained for!!

Good luck and please keep us informed about your engine choice.

Regards.

PS. Interestingly there is another LJ Lochin for sale on the brokerage page.

Dave.

Hi Martin and Dave,

the weather has certainly been a frustration this year but some good days afloat but not as many as i would of liked.

Hope your refit goes well Martin and you make the right decision with your replacement engine,Im sure there will be plenty of head scratching at times but you can always throw a question at the forum.

Ive been giving BS some attention, new bilge pump fitted, windscreen wash system altered and modified. Fitted pressured cold system to the galley sink rather than the old pump action tap!.

Looking to freshen up the heads at somepoint as the white flow coat has gone off, maybe changing linings at some point.

There's been some interesting Lochins appear for sale and maybe some new owners will introduce themselves too.

Best wishes

Geoff...................

Hi Guys

Just had the old Perkins option thrown at me which has kind of made me think a bit, the FPT is a couple of hundered quid more but it might be a bit more temperemental too. The perkins 130 is a solid bus and very reliable should still easily get our operating speed while not thrashing it though I won't have the 14kn sprint speed (which I never used other than to blow out the soot in the turbo!!!)

We will check the stern tube and shaft too while engine is out plus all the other work. Might put LJ in the shed for a few days as well which will make a lot of the work easier.

Not planning to fit the engine till after Xmas so still time to think again.

Cheers All

Martin

OK

Perkins 130 ordered today, time to delivery 6 weeks so should be fitted in the new year. The Sabre should be out earlier giving plenty of time to clean and paint etc.

Cheers

Martin

Cracking cod Dave well done. Our season ends when the customers arent here! I have kept the boat out till the end of Nov a couple of times and we never seem to get the chance to use her.

We had a chance to get her into the yard before we went on holiday and took it. Plenty of work to do this winter. Been fishing from the shore a fair few times and had some Pollack and Coalie, I can always put the Pioner in the water if i need to go out on a boat.

Tight lines

Martin
