After 5 long days of boat maintenance im going back to the day job tomorrow for a rest! Although i believe this will be far from the truth!
Just had my Lochin 33 lifted and ashore for routine maintenance. So 5 long days in the boatyard, much scrubbing, antifouling and polishing im nearly finished. A few odds and ends and I will be back in the water.
Im so pleased and happy with the results I thought id share some pictures...
Do you know when Lochin took the "step-lists " away under water line? Didnt they have any affekt? We put our D9 down for first time yesterday and it went well. Todays work is to mount engine and shortness the propeller shaft and mount the new skegg and rudder.. Change propeller .. We hope for a sea trial on Sunday...
'Blue swell' is looking very nice, no wonder you are pleased. All that hard work has really paid off and with everything on the outside done at least you can get her back in the water....anything else can be done later.
Is your hull the original blue or has she been painted? My reason for asking is I have seen a couple of blue hulled Lochins that are quite faded and sort of chalky looking. Do you know if its possible to polish out.
Interesting to see you have three bladed props where mine are four. Wonder how much difference it really makes?
Tobias. Best of luck with sea trial and glad to hear the engine is running well!
I always use a small foam roller to apply my Antifoul and have a great smooth finish.
Blue Swell is still in original gelcoat and the colour is "Blue Nile" from Scott Bader I believe. You are quite right Dave about blue hulls fading/chalking whether its a Lochin,Mitchell or other but with the right product and time they can be restored but you do have to be careful not to go through the gelcoat. If anyone is interested I have used 3M Restore and Wax with a medium foam polishing head at approx 15-1800 rpm and will be giving an extra polish with Autoglym Super Resin Polish if i have time.
Just got the topsides to have sprayed later on as the yard timing/my budget didnt quite work out and I want to use my Lochin and not have out the water for the summer period. Plus Im hoping to renegoiate my quote towards the end of the year.
Not sure on the 3 or 4 blade propellor question. With the twin 200hp Volvo's she pulls her max 3750 rpm, with clean bottom and half tanks seeing 24 knots.
Tobias anychance of uploading a video of your sea trial ??
Hi i hope i can upload a video ....The mighty D9 is on its wright place now waiting on fuel and electric power. I tried to upload a video here but it was not able maybe on YouTube .... I have to censure my movies cause its a sensitive place to make movies.. our paint job didnt went well have to make it again on the spray deflectors damit cheep tape.....
As being new on this forum , I'l post some pictures from lochin's arround here. very nice and seaworthy boats. have been @sea with them and nothing else than love at first sight. I'm starting to look for one of them to replace my current boat.
all the best for ongoing projects and wish you all much of joy and plenty boating days.
my current boat is a jeaneau 695 with 150 bhp volvo, max is 23 kn's
but i reduced the prop pitch to hive here less speed for safety reason.
My father is using here also but knows only one throttle position "flat on the desk" know she is doing max 20 and cruising @ 16 kn's
the lochin pictured had recently been repowered and was given a +600bhp volvo !!! its a real mean machine and how's over the 30 kn's when slick and flat sea. the trim's are from the utmost importance when releasing such an amount of power to this boats
there are is one other lochin over here, if possible and with the approval of the owner i will post them when possible and if i find some pictures of them.
Impressed by Loctite Dri Loc 211 sealer. This was used on new toilet sea**** fittings, it allows you to position everything where required and only hand tightening curing in 10mins to a solid bond and only hot air gun will undo!
Have managed to get out twice this week and performing well reaching 22.8 knots with wind against tide
