Boat Show

Happy New Year

Just back from the London boat show at Excel. Had a fantastic time and saw some great stuff but I have to say ''it's not for me''.

Princess and Sunseeker had the biggest stands and whilst they were fantastic to look round I wouldn't trade Lady Jayne for any of them. If I knew it was gonna get rough I wouldn't even get on board!

It is all very well having cream leather sofas and berber carpets but in reality it will just get covered in mackerel scales and fish guts. Looking forward to going through all the info I got and choosing my new fish finder. At present I think the Furuno looks favourite and it is compatible with the plotter and autopilot so looks like I can link em all together. Will just have to figure out how.

Hope everyone managed to weather the storms. It has caused more damage locally than any other spell of weather we have had in the 13 years I have lived on Mull. Still a few yachts stranded on the shore at Connel when we came back t'other day.

All the best

Martin

Hello martin. Glad you enjoyed the show. As you know i went a couple of years ago and really enjoyed looking around all the 'gin palace's' but I did'nt  want one then or now, but it is still a good place to research your gear!

The Furuno gear you are thinking about will be great I'm sure...it was very high on my list too and I only went with the Simrad NSE 12 at the time because it was new to the market...very pleased with the system though, especially since I added another NSE and I believe slightly easier to operate for us oldies!!

'Sorcerer' was bouncing around a bit during the gales but she is ok.....did hear a boat sunk in the harbour though. Hope 'Lady Jane' came through unscathed!!

When you mentioned Mull I remembered that my little Seaward 23 called 'Katie Marie' went there...don't suppose you have seen her about??

Keep us posted about your gear.

Regards.

Dave.

Hi Dave

Lady Jayne was safely ashore at Balvicar, thank goodness.

Sorry I haven't seen 'Katie Marie' I would remember if I had she looks a lovely boat. Are you sure she came to the Isle of Mull and not Mull of Galloway or Kintyre. A lot of people confuse us with other places with similar names. If you can remember the buyers village I can make enquiries.

Cheers

Martin

Hi Martin

Im a great Furuno fan having had various units over the years and still have to date.

I currently have installed a Furuno Navnet Chart plotter/fishfinder and have the options to have Radar dome pugged in as well.  My current early 90's Furuno colour radar has a huge dome it keeps working so reluctant to remove and 2nd colour fishfinder is another standalone Furuno unit.

I have always had great deals through Cactus Marine over the years.

Best wishes Geoff

Hi Geoff

Thanks for that. I'll put Cactus on the list for people to get quotes from. I know if looked after their gear works well for years. My sounder is now probably getting on for 30 years old. When I got the boat the radar was Furuno and I only changed it as the scanner went us due to it being sat unused for 2 yrs.

Cheers

Martin

Thanks for that Martin.  I thought she went to the Isle of mull but not sure where. I know that she was motored from Brixham and the last port of call was Port Ellen on Islay. She may have had a name change by now though...cheers anyway.

I remember going through mountains of literature when I got back from the boatshow, some of it was junked straight away and some I kept going over and over. I narrowed it down to Furuno and Simrad. A lot of trawlers here in Brixham have Furuno so they can't all be wrong......think electronics in general have moved on somewhat since the old Decca mk21 navigator though!

Regards.

Dave.
