Fishing Trip 7th August 2011

Hi Guys, Have'nt contributed much to the forum in a while, so here is a few pictures from a recent fishing trip on our Lochin. One of the best days fishing we've ever had! 7 boxes in total, mainly Haddock and one box of cod, with the odd Ling landed aswell. Couple of seagulls managed to get tangled in the bait aswell as you can see from the pics! This was off the Butt of Lewis at the Northerly most tip of the western isles. Flat calm seas & an absoloutly fantastic day out biggrin

Wow looks like you had a great day! We dream of catching Haddock like that round here, did you catch them on bait or lures? Rough ground or sand? What depth? Our trips have been productive recently as well with some decent Pollack showing as well as the usual Mackerel and Coalies. We have been using Fladen dayglo rigs which seem to be able to catch just about anything.

The wild life has been impressive too, last fishing trip we kept having to wind in the gear because the Dolphins were getting too close - nobody minded though! have a look at http://www.youtube.com/user/cmcdowall#p/a/u/0/GNCx_NPNq4A shot by my crewman on his phone.

Tight lines

Martin

Thank you Martin,

It was Macerel bait that was used mostly. Its been many years since we have seen the fishing this good. I guess there are less Trawlers than ever before due to increasing fuel costs etc. Its all we can think of anyway, because in years gone by, if we we fished a day of the Butt of Lewis there used to be umpteen Trawlers towing up on down on the Horizon beside us, but now we see little or none. Good news for Anglers! biggrin
