What do you think?
Does this fit the Lochin or is it too much...?

Hi Wouter

I think it's very nice indeed.

Definately not too fancy and very in keeping for a Lochin providing you don't want to use your Lochin for serious fishing.

Cheers

Chas

Hi Wouter,

It looks great! Not too fancy at all. It looks like you are able to remove it as well? Do you have cushions on it? Is the boat ready for the season? Also, has your boat been repainted or still original gelcoat?

I'm sure that I have seen your boat for sale previously in Holland. (2008)?

All the best,

Harold

Hi Harold,
Thanks! It also took me a lot of energy, stress, etc ...!
The cushions will be made by a specialised company, also cushions in between so I can make a huge sunbed. Yes the boat is ready for the season, I actually already did some nice trips. My last stop was in the middle of Centre Amsterdam, celebrating Quensday which is a great deal in the Netherlands. Last week my boat had to go the the yard because my propellor nut was not that good anymore so I had to make a new one because it was not a standard availible nut. Made it in comination with an anode on the end.

Yes my boat was for sale in 2008, first by the owner itself and later by Sleeuwijk yachting which is a broker. In 2007 the previous owner repainted the complete boat. Also the complete interior, electrical wiring, navigation equipment is replaced in 2007. He spent a huge amount of money to refit the boat which is done properly by the way.

We have almost the same boat I see, what type of engine do you have? Do you use it for fishing or?

Tace care, Wouter

Hi Wouter,

Yes our boats are very similar. From what I know my boat was built in 1984. The last owner un fortunately took the builders plate away. I'm running a Yanmar CXETE420hp @ 2700rpm and the displacement is 7.1lt. Our boat was on Vlieland from 1996 to 2002, then she was sold to England. The fellow who owned it in Vlieland spent quite a bit of money on her. She had originally a CAT3208, (I believe around 350hp). He then had the Yanmar put in 1999. Believe it or not the Yanmar was physically wider than the CAT so they had to cut some panels away under the floor, which wasn't really done in the nicest way. The people who sold and fitted the engine was gebr. van enkhuizen. I believe they are in Makkum. Have you heard of them?

The boat is now really close to being finished. Still have to decide on a stove and water. Yes I like to use it for fishing and a bit of cruising, but it seems almost impossible to find the time.

Where do you have your boat moored? My dads boat was moored in The Hamer Kanaal, which doesn't exist anymore. (Amsterdam Noord). We are originally from Amsterdam.

All the best,

Harold

repairs 004 (3).JPGA.jpgrepairs 005 (3).JPGA.jpgrepairs 002 (2).JPGA.jpgHi all,
Wouter, I remember seeing your boat for sale when I first started looking. I thought she looked good then, but I expect even better now!
Mine is progressing slowly but I have uploaded some photo's of work in progress. The 'heads' plinth has been made by the builder from scratch.....he has done a good job and has a sink to do next! The rudder stocks have been strengthened significantly and the woodwork is coming on nicely....I have to say I am very pleased with the standard of the work!
Will post more pics as work progresses.
Cheers.
Dave.

Looking good Dave - very good indeed!

What interior wood are you using? It's difficult to tell from the photos when it's unfinished.

Cheers and keep up the good work

Chas

Thanks chas,
the 'woodwork' is actually an oak formica that is edged with iroko. I don't know why real wood isn't used but I guess I won't have to varnish it and it won't fade and should be wipe clean.......bonus????? I didn't realise there were so many different types of 'wood' available but it does look good......will I miss the sanding and varnishing......Nah, probably not!
Did you get your pulpit rail sorted, or is that to come later on?
I am told that the end of june is possible for my completion on my boat....I really hope so, but that isn't far off and there is still an awful lot to do......I haven't even seen the engines yet and they were paid for before christmas!!
Cheers.
Dave.

Hi Harold,
Yes I know the gebr van Enkhuizen, normally good proffesional guys.
My boat is moored in Uitdam, about 10kilometers north of Amsterdam, directly at the IJselmeer. From there it only takes 4-5 hours to the islands. I used to live in  Amsterdam till last year

How fast does your boat run with a 420hp? What kind of propellor do you have?

If you want I can post some pictures of my stove and water system. Actually I want to "update" my kitchen as I find it a bit old fashion and outdated. One of my next project coming winter storage. First enjoy cruising!

Take care,
Wouter

Hi Dave,
Looks good!
Are you also installing a shower in your toilet? For me that is the only thing that is missing. My previous baot had a big separate shower which I really want again but there is hardly no space availible.
Cheers, Wouter

Hello Wouter,
thanks for the compliment.
Yes, I am having a shower installed and it will be in the same compartment as the electric toilet. It won't be too luxurious but at least we will be able to swill off the fish scales and slime (that means we need to catch fish!), although most marinas have facilities available.
I remember seeing your boat up for sale...I think it was 2008, when I originally started looking for one. I thought she looked good then and she had been closer I would probably have gone to look at her!
I always liked the lines of the earlier Lochins and the way they sit in the water.....hope my later model is as good a sea boat!!
Cheers.
Dave.

Hi Dave

Getting close now eh?

The wood sounds like a practical solution.

Mine is mahogany inside and I've gradually been stripping all of the old varnish off as I go and refinishing the wood with Deks Olja No 1. Some of it was done over five years ago now and it's holding up well. If you ding anything, you just soak some more in.

The pulpit is a job for next winter (mind you, it feels like winter today!).

I know what you're saying about the lines of the earlier Lochins, it's a bit like the difference between Series 1 and Series 3 E Types. The Series 3 was actually a better car and had more room inside but the Series 1 with the short wheelbase and the glass over the headlights was the prettyest.

Cheers and keep us posted

Chas
