Hi! I just signed up as a Lochin33 owner. I am Dutch and I use my Lochin for pleasure and own it for about a year now. The last 3 years, from 1997, she got a significant refit. Still I am "improving" details. I have a Caterpillar 430hp and she is well equiped!.. Anyway hope to get in contact with different owners and hope to share some info and post some questions if they occur. Attached a bad photo but that's what I have sofar. Cheers, Wouter
Hi Martin, Thanks. I use my lochin for pleasure. I can reach a speed over 20-21 knots. There is a 5 blade propellor which seems quite unusual if I look to other Lochin specifications. I believe a 24' x 24' with a DAR of 110%. I am not completely sure but I can look it up if you need. The fuel consumption I have not calculated that sofar, I am not sure I want to know...!
You have a photo of your Lochin? What is your speed with what engine? Regards, Wouter
I have a Ford Sabre 280hp and a 4 blade prop. I max out at 16 1/2 knots at 2300rpm when the hul is clean. However, I use mine for taking wildlife watching trips where we usually do 8 knots at 1400rpm. The fuel consumption drops from 14 gallons per hour to less than 3 at the lower revs so is much better for me. We also do sea angling trips and visit other islands close to mull. Check out www.mullcharters.com for my web site.
My boat had the ultra short wheelhouse originally and has since been extended by about 1 1/2 meters to provide seating in the cabin.
Hi Wouter, may I also welcome you to the forum.....nice to see that quite a few new members are appearing. I am a part Lochin owner at the moment as my 333 harbour pilot is being built in the south west of England at Plymouth. Your boat looks good and you, along with most other people, obviously take great pride in looking after her. Have you done much in the way of renovation since owning her or was she in good nick anyway? Think I remember seeing her on a brokers website some time ago when I first started looking for one. Would I be right in thinking you got her from your area? Regards. Dave.
welcome to the forum, although a bit quiet on here at times ,slowly we are gathering lots of information and some idea's from other forumites. Hope you have enjoyed your Lochin in the first year of ownership, as for fuel economy probably around 3/4 to a 1 gallon per mile dependant on your cruising speed if around the 16-18 knots i would think.
Martin, nice boat. Island of Mull looks beautiful. In the future I want to take my Lochin for a long trip and visit the UK and Scotland. I am not sure when I am ready..! I also work in the boating industry, see www.menkenmaritiem.nl
Dave, nice to have a brand new Lochin in a short time! You will use it for pleasure or to work with? Yes I think my boat was for sale in the UK for about 5 years ago. A Dutch guy, that als worked in the boating industry, bought it at that time and spent a huge amount of money refitting the boat. I have a well documented logbook with all invoices attached. He spent over 60.000 euros!! He completely stripped the boat and started with almost a casco. All wiring, complete interior, navigation, heating, etc etc is brand new. Since I have her, my biggest change is a new U-bench in the aft and insulation of the complete aft section.
Geoff, next year I will measure the fuel consumption, it is good the know. I have a fuelconsumption computer in my boat but it is not connected. Would be good to do so.
Chas, yes that's my boat!! Nice to see you have some old pictures! Can you maybe sent me some in high resolution? Would be great for my logbook and website. Would appreciate that! wvandenbrink@hotmail.com Why did you not bought this Lochin at that time? I hear some rumours that my Lochin had sunk one time??? Maybe that's why she got a complete refit
I'm sorry but I don't have any high resolution photos, they're all I have.
I did have a PDF of the Simon Thomas Yacht Sales brochure for her at one time. I can't find it now but I would think Simon probably still has it in his records.
I didn't buy it because it was out of my price range. There were actually four of the long wheelhouse varients for sale at the time I bought mine.
The first one I looked at had been wrecked by ill concieved modifications and poor qualty workmanship by previous owners.
The second one I looked at was much better and that was the one I bought. Both were on the South Coast.
I guess if the second one had turned out to be poor, I may have raised more funds and gone to Holland and looked your one.
The fourth one that was for sale at that time Was "Salochin" but it seems that the owner withdrew her for sale and was rumoured to have spent around £100K on a refit including a new pair of Perkins Sabre M300Ti engines.
I'm sure I remember yours coming up for sale very briefly a couple of years ago on Simon Thomas's web site after having sunk by sabotage then disappeared again very quickly. Nice to know it's been resurrected and is now in good hands.
Welcome to the forum! Nice to see that there is another dutchman with a Lochin!! YOur boat looks fantastic!! It looks very much like an original factory finished one. I also remember that she was advertised on Simon's website. Wasnt she somewhere in Vlissingen? But then she dissapeared. What improvements do you want to do to her? Is she still original inside? Do you know what year she was built? Also she is unusual to have a door in the middle. My father had a newLochin 33 in 1978(extended wheelhouse). She was moored in Amsterdam (Hamer kanaal).
We bought our Lochin in 2005 and she arrived in Australia in March 2006. After 3 months afloat I decided to do a full restoration. The last 2 owners hadn't been very kind to her. After almost 3 years she's back in the water and is almost like new. Still not totally finished on the inside, but at least we can use her. I am also in the GRP repair business. We (my darling understanding, patient, adoring wife and I) regelcoated the entire hull and superstructure. We brought her interior back to the original layout. We replaced the ****pit floor and cleaned and gelcoated under the floor. The engine is a Yanmar CX420hp.
Look forward to seeing your next post on the forum soon.
Hi Wouter, I had a look at your vessel when she was up for sale at Sleeuwijk yachting. Nice boat. If you want I have some history on her. If you want send me an e-mail to get in touch. Cheers Brian info@maqs.be
Hi Harold, Your Lochin also looks great! I am sure yo had a hell of a job getting her up in that shape. I know the formal owner of my lochin put a lot of energy and money into her.
I believe my lochin is from 1984. At the moment I am making a Ssteel U-bench finished with teak for outside. The inside is completely new and done in 2007. All wiring etc is new.
What speed do you reach with a Yanmar 420hp? Good engine!
Do you have some pics of the inside?
I wll be checking the formu more often. The last weeks I was in Switserland snowboarding, that's why my reply is this late.
