Hi Chas, Yep Sundance was sprayed about 7 years ago although not professonaly. Ita amazing what a compound and wax can do - that and not looking too close
Just waiting for the hoist to be repared so that we can go back in the water. The delay is making me look for little jobs to do that i hadnt intended doing this year... not sure if thats a good or bad thing!
Just hoping now that the good settled weather will make an appearance to encourage some use now
The finish looks very good to me Stu, is it a 1 part or or 2 part type paint?
The finish on mine is quite poor and it's just a basic 1 part paint but unless it is out of the water, you never get close enough to see just how poor it is. I will address it sometime but that will be about the last job.
I've thought of re-gelcoating the hull but keep hearing how blue gelcoat doesn't last well. I'm not in any rush on this one so there will be plenty of time to make up my mind and any thoughts would be apreciated.
I see you have a windlass on your bow as well as the side mounted capstan, is there a major advantage in having both?
Hi Chas, The paint is single pack which means easy touching up if dinged. It was applied badly though and adherance is not great in places unfortunately. The side winch (Niko?) was original fit with rollers round the side to the bow for handling the anchor chain/warp. The anchor winch on the bow (Lofrans Tigress) is more convenient though and was fitted when we bought the boat.
The rollers around the side deck had also been removed so the Niko winch is just for the odd pot or two now - and also scares the hell out of the tupperware boats when you come along side them
Yours looks about the same colour as mine - International Brightside - largo blue.
I'm just about to re-fit my Neco capstan (see post from a long time ago) I made a new base plate from 12mm delrin (an engineering plastic) so we'll see how that works out.
I'm also planning on making - fitting a detachable (mini pot hauler type) arm with appropriately located pulleys for lifting heavy things. A legnth of galvanised scaffolding tube would probably be Ok and strong enough and fit a permanent stainless base assembly to the side deck and brace it to the knee below the deck. A bit like a detachable davit but bigger, stronger and nastier!
An Alderney ring seems the easiest way of retrieving anchors from deeper water these days.
