Well it seems we are now on the downhill stretch with our restoration, at least to the point where we are only a matter of weeks from launching her. Last weekend I finished off the combing. (see photos). Toe rails will be started tomorrow and hopefully finished this week. One side window back together, wasn't actually as difficult as I had envisioned. Mind you I did have my faithfull sidekick (wife) guiding my every move. Isn't that typical of a woman?
You are doing a fine job. The gel coat looks superb, you must have spent hours polishing it to get a finish like that - it looks better than a new boat.
Yeah, what would we do without our wives telling us what to do - the mind boggles.
What is the construction and finish on the back bulkhead of your wheelhouse?
Also, what are the three screws for on the inside of the combing? Have you thought of using black fibre washers between the screw heads and the gel coat?
The main bulkhead was originally teak veneered (factory finished), however, too many holes drilled by previous owners. Couldn't do anything with it other than paint over it with a marine paint. Wife suggested to leave the two vertical timber strips to give it some character.
The later Lochins all had white bulkheads. The light colour keeps it cooler anyway.
The 3 screws in the photo are where the step is attached to the side of the combing (factory standard). Where do you buy the black washers you refer to. We will send you a better photo soon.
I've bought the black fibre washers from www.seascrew.com along with most of my other stainless steel hardware. They seem to have a good range and keen prices.
