Some questions for Simon and Roger and a few thoughts of my own.
Simon and Roger:
1. Have you considered contacting the people you have on your books to inform them of the forums existance?
2. This forum doesn't seem to send out automatic e mail messages to inform you when there has been a reply to your post. Can that be incorporated into te software.
Simon Roger and All:
Does the title "Lochin Owner's Association" make this forum too exclusive?
Would something like "Lochin Enthusiasts Association" be more appropriate as it would include those who may never own a Lochin but who would like to talk about them as well?
Should we not encourage owners and or enthusiasts of similar craft such as Aquabell, Cygnus Aquastar, Mitchell etc to share the forum? After all these craft have much more in common with lochins than they do with Sunseekers. I for one, would be very interested to hear from anyone who was restoring and maintaining one of these craft.
Over to you Gentlemen; any other thoughts, suggestions or comments?
Hows about a Lochin owners get together ?, eg weekend, maybe tied in with a Lochin Marine open weekend if youre having one this year Simon. Maybe sub section for Aquabells,Mitchells ect ect as mentioned as there isnt one for them either. Anyone else got any ideas?
Thank you Chas for doing some 'shouting' about this Forum. One prolem I think we have in the difficulty in getting 'signed on'. I have asked a number of people just to sign on even if they cannnot think of anything to say but just to read and see what anybody else is writing about. I think if we can get an immedaite 'sign on' it would be better. the waiting for a confirmation just puts us off. So, I'm talking to the computer man to sort this one out (it's got something to do with the programme we are using I understand). Well now, what to talk about. Anyone re-engined a Lochin38 with two new Cat C-7s!!! We are just doing that now. Some of you will perhas recall JARD - the Belgium boat owned by Dirk. Well she is in with us at the moment and we are shoe-horning in these engines. I am also looking at the two Lochin 333 Harbour Pilots here. Both on brokerage. One has recently worked with full MCA spec doing survey work. The other is a private one. Both are in good order and lookng for new owners (I would say that wouldn't I!) If you have seen our web site recently you will see we have some of the older craft - L38 Leda, L38 Motor Cruiser,L33 GDSV and an L38 Sports Fisherman. they all look in good shape for their age and certainly worth a thought if anyone was looking at new boats of the tupperware type where the prices are way up there! Another interesting one is 12m Lochin Rescue Boat with the South African Rescue Organisation. She is still in service since 1986/7 and sits in a cradle which keeps her upright and rolls down a ramp for launch/recovery. Coming up to date you will have seen on our web site the L40 with the island wheelhouse and forward sloping windows. We are just looking to offer a similar wheehouse on a 33 for small potting boat in Ireland. So things are still busy - despite the guvnor on the other side of the world at this moment!!!
So how about some of you Lochin owners talking about what you use your boat for? There's a really top-class fishing boat down in Newlyn - another L38 - which is high tech and earning her keep catching Cornish Sardines! the onwer is looking to sell 'cos he needs to catch more sardines. She really is a master-piece of technical fishing though. That's all for now...let's have some more ramblings from you: Roger at Lochin HQ

I still think that Lochin Owners Association is too exclusive especially considering that the second most prolific contributer to this forum was actually a Mitchell owner. How you doing Dave - long time no speak?
things are going good apart from too much work and not enough time on the boat
been out a few times when the wind hasn't stop me had to do more after work trips to get my fishing in had plenty of bass ,smoothound ,tope and loads of mackerel which always taste good on the b.b.q
just getting a few bits together because the boat is coming out of the water at northney marine for a bit of maintenace ,antifoul.anode,and new prop which i got off ebay

Are you still using white antifouling? I used white Cruiser Uno once but it wery quickly turned green (not slime but copper oxide colour). I used Cruiser Uno black this time with a white Trilux boot line and it is holding up much better.
i didn't get the boat out at any marina as i got quoted a price from two marina's then when i went to book it they changed the price and said they dont remember giving me the first price ,so i said sod it and ran the boat up the beach in langstone .
well after 18 month's in the water the bottom only had slime on it so a quick scrub with a brush and water and it was clean again. i change the prop and anode and repainted the hull
me and a mate have been using different makes of antifoul over the years and the only one thats seems to last is dark red jotun
