No idea! Have seen all the junk but just ignored it - think that is the best way
Finally having a day or two off! Not had a break since the start of the season months ago so looking forward to some me time. I am sure that will also inlude a fishing trip on LJ though, now that the fishing is picking up. Hope everyone else is having sossme success.
I moderate on a Range Rover forum and it just entails keeping a watchful eye over posts to make sure there is nothing insulting or crude being posted and stopping free advertising, as some will try and sell their business products.
General 'housekeeping' of topics and being able to group similar threads together makes them easier to find for future reference.
It would also enable junk like we are seeing to be deleted.
I have mentioned this to Simon and he said he was going to have a look at it.
Glad to hear you are making the most of the weather and Lady Jane is earning her keep.
We have managed a few trips on Sorcerer 11 recently and the wrecks have been loaded with cod. Had a few up to 17lb, with some double figure Pollack too. In fact I have never known so may cod around.....wonder what this means!!!
Thinking about getting the boat out of the water to replace Anodes etc, but am reluctant to at the moment with the good fishing.
The Bass have started too, although as a private boat we can only catch three each per day.
Maybe there is so many cod on your wrecks because low commercial cod quotations and bag limits really work ?
Another reason can be that when Tommy's bow comes out of the marina, all cod takes flight to Enland.
For the bass, same story here, 3 bass (+ 45 cm ) per day per angler, but I am afraid it will not help the bass as long the French trawler fleet keeps fishing on their spawning grounds and not agree with lower quotations, the bass population will drop even deeper then our North see cod has done a few years ago.
Not only France, but also Dutch government has a strange policy. Sport anglers get a restriction in which I agree, but still they give licenses for 7,5 km most deadly non selective trammel nets ?
Simon has kindly allowed me access to this forum on his behalf so the spam that has been gradually increasing on here can be deleted and a more watchful eye will be kept to make sure it doesnt re-appear!!
Well done, I haven't stopped by here much of late 1. Due to the spam 2. Lack of postings. As of now I will start checking more frequently.
LJ working hard when the weather allows, all seems to be running OK (touches wood) new engine into it's 3rd year and getting run in now, pulls and extra 100rpm
Our base at Ulva Ferry is getting a new pontoon and fuel berth next year which will make my life and my passengers lives much easier, and any visitors too
Having a week on South coast England later this year, just booked a trip out on a charter boat out of Weymouth with Clem, used to run a Lochin 38 called Wild Frontier. Our fishing is just starting to come on with plenty of coalies and Pollack but still very few mackerel for the time of year.
Yes it has been a little quiet lately and I know that forums do go like this from time to time.
The bombardment of spam that was being received on here was pretty dire and with nobody to delete it, was becoming a real nuisance!
Good to hear that LJ is working hard and the new engine has settled in nicely.
I think I mentioned before about how much easier it is on a pontoon. That's one reason I like the marina Sorcerer 11 is on.........I just don't like the fees!!!
The fishing day should be great and I have a photo somewhere of 'Wild frontier' the Lochin 38 Clem Carter used to have, but I can't for the life of me find it now. He has a Southboats Cat now I believe??
Mackerel have been patchy here, but masses of cod have been here and Pollack now coming on again. I haven't seen a coalfish in yonks!
Going to start another topic on antifoul paint with some questions, but best wishes and if you plan to come further west during your visit please give me a shout.
That's a kind offer, don't know if we will manage it this time. Richard said they had been doing well with the cod especially on the wrecks. Yes Clem has a cat now my mate crews for him occasionally and rest of the time is a normal client. October sounds like a good time of year to go and we might get some species we don't see around here like black bream, bass etc.
Before today, I hadn't been on here for a while basically for the reasons previously stated; bombardment with spam and lack of posts. Thinking about it, it was probably the bombardment with spam that led to the lack of posts.
Anyone know what the spam was about? It never made any sense to me at all.
The spam was indecipherable and became very frequent, so I mentioned it to Simon. I guess he is busy so he allowed me access to his login to delete several pages of the rubbish. Luckily we don't seem to have had any since I blocked that particular person.
So, how are things with you? Still got your Lochin?
Mine is due to come out the water for maintenance and some stainless work on Saturday, but now the weather looks awful and as its a good two hour run to Plymouth, with a beam on strong Easterly, I may have to postpone it, AGAIN!
Yeah, still got the old Lochin, moved to a different marina last year, where there's a bit more life (Haslar Marina in Gosport) so I'm still around.
Talking about stainless work, there's a bloke two boats down that does stainless work as his business so I'm going tr try him out.
Postpone in a Lochin 40? are you going soft? (only joking!)
Yeah, that spam made absolutely no sense to me and can't understand why he posted so much in the site. He obviously had an awful lot of time on his hands, should have tried to get out a bit more. I say "he" because I can't imagine any woman being that stupid.
I've poste a picture (at least I think I have) so you can see the old boat's still in one piece.
Glad to see people are still dropping by here occasionally. I posted something in early march and never got a reply so I thought I was Billy no-mates.
Glad to see everyone is still busy getting their boats ready, LJ is now working most days after all the work over winter. A quick pic of her at our local pier
Yep, still alive! I moved from Sparkes at the end of March 2015, needed a change of scenery. That Aquabell of yours looks great!
LJ's looking mighty fine too! I think that the spam bombardment must have put all of the regulars off. It took a long time to deal with it as well so I just stopped bothering.
I've had a few bereavements over the last few years, first my Dad in 2010. soon after that my father in law went downhill and had to go into care so that prevented the missus from doing much boating. He eventually died in February 2014 and we thought we'd have at least a couple of easy years then, my Mum got cancer in the May of that year and was gone by early June. Couple that with having to clear out and sell her house and that wasn't over until late last year. So that's why I haven't been doing that much in that time. The to add insult to injury, I lost two of my old fishing mates just before last Christmas, both to cancer.
Chas you are right......Re. postpone. But it wasn't totally in my hands as the hoist had been broken for three days, so there was a backlog of boats to move. That and the fact the weather was bad today, it looks bad next week too, so the stainless guy won't be able to do my work, so.......yes I cancelled. Alright I've gone soft. I know the boat would be fine, but I'm fragile you know.
What sort of stainless work are you having done?
Martin. Sorry I didn't reply...must have missed that one, but Lady Jane is looking fantastic, you have put a lot of work into her, but well worth it.
Not managed to get out fishing much this year yet, but we had our first Coalfish in years recently. Pollack too and some Cod coming along again now.......shame about the Bass!!!!!
Sorry to hear you have had a rough time of late, getting older to me means going to more funerals, always a tough job even when sometimes you have been expecting it. We have had some shockingly young deaths here on Mull in the last year, took the wind out of everyone's sails for a bit. Anyway hope you get out on your boat, nothing like open water to ease the soul and make you feel better.
Thanks for the compliments on LJ, she is 40 this year so I thought she could do with a makeover, think the skipper needs one too now!
Not been fishing yet but there were some mackerel caught in Iona Sound last week which is really early for here.
Glad you're still OK and I did wake up this morning which is always a good start.
Unfortunately, everyone has to go through it but fortunately, my Mum and Dad did live to reasonable ages (84 and 80) and we were quite a close family so had plenty of good times together. At lest you can't say they died young like a lot seem to be these days.
My boat will be 40 next year so the same sort of age as yours.
Yeah, looking forward to some good boating and fishing now that spring is (or at least supposed to be) here.
