Summer lull

Hi Folks

Not much happening on here recently, I am guessing everyone is out on their boats enjoying the lovely weather.

We are still working hard on LJ racking up the hours. The new engine is just coming up to its second service and is doing everything we wanted it to, including saving us a few quid on fuel!

A couple of weekends ago we took a weekend off and heade out to Gunna sound between Tiree and Coll for a night then next day steamed up the west side of coll to the Cairns where we spent a second night. Due to it being so warm no one wanted to sleep in the fore peak so we solved the problem in quite a unique (I think way) I don't know if this has ever been done on a Lochin before but  we could classify it as ''the Glastonbury'' model. see pic

Not as much wildlife about but we saw thousands of seabirds loads of porpoise and a minke whale. the fishing was pretty good too with good mackerel pollack and coalies

HI Martin.

Yes it is very quiet on here at the moment!

The Lady Jane campsite.....the smallest in the world I reckon, but mobile too!

Just been watching 'Hebrides' on TV. Lady Jane made a brief appearance but I have to say she looked really nice Martin.

We had a really good fishing trip the other day out on the 'temporary' Mitchell I have. We had several cod to 20lb with Pollack to 14lb and some Ling too. Saw some dolphins and two sunfish....all in all a pleasurable day.

Not much to report on the new boat at the moment...unfortunately but perhaps some photo's soon.

regards.

Dave.

Hi Dave

Sounds like you have all the fish and wildlife down your way. The water here has taken ages to warm up and only last week was less than 13 deg. It has meant that the mackerel were slow to arrive which in turn knocked back everything else. We still haven't seen a basking shark this year as they all seem to be further out to sea than usual.

Glad you spotted LJ on the telly, we are just waiting for the phone to start ringing off the hook, already got some bookings for next year. We are on the telly again in a few weeks with Iolo Williams on The Great British Wildlife Revival (25th I think) I'm going to apply for an equity card soon.

Hope the new build is coming along as you hoped, what about an extended cruise up to the Hebrides next summer?

Cheers for now

Martin

IMG_1163 (2).jpgHi Martin, Tents on a Lochin! LoL, what a fantastic idea! Glad your new engine is serving you well. With todays fuel prices, displacement speed is looking more like the way to go! Heres a photo of the "Alison Rose" taken two weeks ago, at anchor of Taransay on the west coast of Lewis. We totally nailed it with the weather that day! biggrin

Hi Robbie

What a stunning photo. I remember Taransay from the programme they made there a few years back about people being marooned together and having to form a community. No hardship on a day like that. Yes displacement speed is the way to go for us, diesel up another 3p per litre on the last deleivery. I can't see it going down much anytime soon. Alison Rose looking splendid in the background, we could have met up at the cairns of Coll that weekend but it's a bit further for you than me.

Cheers

Martin

Ah yes, "Castaway 2000" was the program you remember! All the stars disappeared into oblivion apart from Ben Fogle, who went on to be a fairly successful tv presenter. Its a beautiful island with some of the whitest sand I've ever seen! Yes indeed the fuel never seems to come down in price eh? We will quite often run out to the fishing grounds at 20 knots, but return at displacement speed. Its cheaper & it gives us time to gut & fillet all the fish! One of our dreams is to cruise around Oban & Mull area with the Lochin ONE day! But when we do it would be great to meet up & have some local knowledge on places to visit & good company of course!

Cheers

Robbie

If you are planning a trip down here let me know and I will let you have some lovely spots for a layover. It would be great to meet up. I was hoping to get up to Hyskeir this summer and probably stop at Canna for a night, time is marching on so it might have to wait till next year now. Back to work tomorrow for as long as the weather allows.

Cheers

Martin
