Been rather quiet on here lately and the weather hasn't been up to much either but hopefully improving now.
As several of you will know I sold 'Sorcerer' the Lochin 333 harbour pilot I had built about three years ago, just after xmas 2012, with the intention of building a Lochin 40 sportsfisherman.
You may also recall there were several delays and she was about one year later than originally planned.
As if this wasn't enough and me being the mad fool that I am, my new boat is underway and I post a couple of photo's.......here we go again!!
Fantastic news, if nothing else it will be somebody posting on here, as you say it has been quiet of late. Looking forward to the regular updates we enjoyed while you built Sorcerer. What are your plans for engine/s and layout and wheelhouse?
LJ is going well and working hard when the weather allows, we are just about to clock up 50 hours on the new engine. It is pretty quiet and uses less fuel than the Ford but can only get up to 8kn with the existing prop as opposed to the 14.5kn with the Ford. Our duty speed is only 7.5kn anyway so we aren't losing anything at all.
Hi there ! thats a nice lookin prodject .hope we can follow it as the last one ....here in sweden the summer is aronde the coner and we hope for mutch sun and non wind....t
I will post more photo's of progress on the 40 as we go if people are interested and as you say Martin it will be another post.
The wheelhouse height is being raised by 100mm or so, again as 'sorcerer' was. I found this to be a comfortable height for me being fairly tall at around 6ft 1" but shrinking with age, but meaning I can stand upright without banging my head as I have on so many other boats!!! It also enables larger windows to be fitted forward, thus maximising visibility.
She will have twin Volvo D6 435hp's fitted on conventional shaft drive this time. No problems with the V drives previously, but as the 40 is bigger the engine's are totally accessible so no need to have them the other way around.
The layout will be pretty similar to 'sorcerer' with a few changes. I might include air conditioning this time but I am certainly having the tinted windows again like Robbie has on his boat 'Alison rose'.....they are brilliant!
Martin, glad to hear LJ is going well and it makes sense to have the speed you use rather than having a big engine with performance you don't ever need or use! If I didn't go so far I would have a single engine with a lot less hp! Guess you will be having your first service soon.
Tobias, you live in hope too, just as we do here in the uk, but I hope you are right about summer being around the corner and no wind.....sorry yachties!!
The mouldings for my new Lochin 40 sports fisherman are just about ready to be transported to my builder, Blue water boats in Plymouth to be fitted out.
Goodchild marine services have done an excellent job in producing the mouldings, as I saw for myself during a recent visit to them!
Looking forward to getting started now with completion anticipated early 2014.
What is everyone else up to? Making use of the good weather?
Going for twin D6's again, although at 435hp each on conventional shaft drive this time. Because the boat is bigger the engines will be easily accessible from the c0ckpit anyway so no need for the V drives.
As you can probably see I opted for doors either side to make things easier to get on and off. As life takes its hold on flexibility it may prove invaluable!!
How's Lady Jane going with the new engine? Hope she is giving you all you require and I bet the fuel economy is pretty good.
Regards.
Dave.

Yes I saw the doors, perfect for working off a pontoon, unfortunately useless on our sloping topped tidal pier or I would have put side doors in. I agree about flexibility and have just bought myself a back scratcher as for some reasonI cant reach any more!!!!
LJ going really well thanks (touches wood) Just completed the 200hrs service which was interesting, access to the oil filters ain't too great. It is much quieter, smoother and does the same speed with less fuel and runs cleaner so a winner all round. We had a quiet start due to the poor spring but it has come good now and we have been busy for the last few weeks. Did some filming for BBC with Iolo Williams for a new programme called The Great British Wildlife Revival to be shown in August, should show a clip of LJ and we were on The Hebrides which was shown in Scotland but you can get on I Player so good advertising.
