If there's one thing that gets us Brits talking its usually the weather!
So I'm having my say. I'm getting fed up with it!! From the day they first mentioned the 'drought' and 'water shortages' it has hardly stopped raining down here. I'll soon be able to get on my boat from the house.
I have'nt even managed to have a go shark angling yet either, it has always been bad weather when I can go and very rarely good even when I can!
Remember the, 'I think we need a bigger boat', bit from 'Jaws'? Well, I don't want to be saying that when its too late so have decided I want a 40 foot Lochin now and that is why some of you may have seen 'Sorcerer' advertised for sale on Lochins website. Of course the...... 'need a bigger boat' bit is b......t....... I just want a bigger boat! Anyway, we'll see what happens and I have finished moaning about the weather.......for now!
we also have this raining 40% of the day and pretty much wind to ....no fishing or fun just work ..... hope it will be better my firs week is done of my vacation...
Hello Dave and Tobias I am afraid it is not much better here down under Suppose to be the best time of the year and all it does is rain yak regards Harold
Well here we are again,my weekend off and it continues to rain and blow. I understand exactly where you are all coming from, does make you consider all options about boat ownership whether to sell/keep/change BUT Guys realistically.......................
WHAT THE HELL WOULD YOU DO WITHOUT HAVING A BOAT !
(Apart from having some spare cash floating about)
I certainly have considered selling this year because of the weather/back problem but I have had boats since my early teens. All I would do is continue "trawling the net" for another boat Lol.
So Guys Im gonna ride this storm for the moment and look foward to the weather improving ( eventually)
Don't want to sound smug or anything, but, we have had a great year so far with only 3 days cancelled for bad weather. Just checked the hour meter the other day and we have done 370 so far and the forecast looks good for the coming week. Perhaps you should all move to Mull, after all moorings are £45 per year, the wildlife and surroundings are stunning and the fishing aint too bad either.
Just a thought
Only problem is the winter, the last one rained constantly from September through to April!!!!!!!
Martin, the low priced moorings sounds very appealing, but it looks like the weather is changing here at last! In fact I should be able to get out fishing this weekend. I think I have managed just 40 hours so far this year.
Geoff, you are right in saying you would'nt know what to do if you sold your boat, but I hope your back problem improves soon coz the joy of crawling around underneath doing the lovely antifouling again will be missed otherwise!
Harold and Tobias, things must change for the better soon.....and Tobias, do you have any further news yet about your sea trials?
Have being working on our house for a few days now so the boat is standing still the new drive line just waiting to be tested ... I hope some day soon it will be done ......
Best fishing day of the year so far on Tuesday. 4 of us caught loads of fish kept 88 and put at least the same back. Mainly Pollack Coalfish and Mackerel because of the way we were fishing (and a few Launce too) Things are looking up!
not much work on our wind now but on our house we just raise it 6 cm and about to fix the ground around the house.....it has sunk 6 cm in 103 year,,,,, the most when they did the plumbing 40 years ago..... i hope next week will be some done with Wind
We smoke Mackerel, my wife bought me a small smoker a few years back. We now experiment with different cures such as salt/soya/honey or mustard/honey etc etc one of our favourites is Cajun spiced smoked Mackerel, just dip one side in the spices before smoking - delicious. On Saturday found one of the biggest shoals of Mackerel for years, we just couldn't stop catching them and couldn't get through them to fish on the bottom so had to move. Caught some big Coalfish decent Pollack, Ballan Wrasse and Launce as well and we also saw our first Basking Sharks of the year. Have a look at Mull Charters facebook page for a video.
Wet n windy here today so a day off. Going to boat later to do a few little maintenance jobs. I have also bought some new wipers which will need fitting soon, don't seem to have enough time these days.
Yes there does seem to be a lot of mackerel around here to at the moment but one thing we don't seem to get a lot of anymore is coalfish. In fact I can't remember the last time I saw one come up!
We had a good trip out on sunday with several double figure pollack, some Ling and a cod. At slack water my mate had a good conger on, but after about ten minutes his 45lb line parted......he was annoyed and has now earned the nickname 'Robson' after the actor on extreme fishing that always seems to manage to shake them off!!
The weather was really good and we saw two sunfish at different locations on the surface just flicking their dorsal fins on the water in a sort of side to side motion........have'nt seen them for a few years either!
