Cleats

DSC00069 (2) (800x600).jpgHi all.

Does anyone know where I can get a cleat, or who makes them, the same as the photo please?? The top bar is about 10 inces or 250mm.  I am adding a couple more and have managed to get one on Ebay the same as the ones already on my boat, but I need another.

Cheers.

Dave.

Hi Dave

Sorry but I've never seen a cleat like that and I looked at a lot of hardware when I re-did my deck fittings.

I'm sure you have a good reason why you haven't asked the builder of your boat.

You could get it copied but I think you'd be talking big bucks for a cleat.

I've got a 10" cleat in my shed that you could have but it ain't like that.

Best of luck

Chas

Hello Chas.

My builder told me I would not be able to get any more like that but I am not sure why. Strangely enough the one I bought off Ebay came from Plymouth, where my builder is so perhaps it was a local company that he used. Also, another Lochin in Brixham, but built in Plymouth has the same cleats as mine, so I will try and ask the owner where he got them. But these are the only ones I have seen like this and I now look on every boat!

I want to have another the same so they all match but thanks for the offer Chas.

If I can't find another one I may end up getting four new ones. Cooney do some nice looking ones but I don't know how much!!!!!Having one made might be the cheapest option though!

Cheers.

Dave.

Hi Dave

It looks from the photo that the top tube is circular as opposed to the more normal oval. If so heck the outside diameter; it looks like 1" OD. If it is that or a standard pipe size, normal  welded on end caps would be wery close to the domed ends shown in your photo.

Copying the rest would be easy for a good stainless steel fabricator.

Cheers

Chas

Hi Chas.

Yes mate you are right the top tube is round. Its at times like this I wish I was still in my old job as a fabricator welder....I could easily have knocked one up, along with many other stainless parts, trouble is I dont have a lathe to radius the ends or a tig welder now. I might go and see a couple of engineering shops for a price though.

Cheers.

Dave.

Hi Harold how you doing?

Hi Dave

That's what I'd do!

I bought a pair of Shaeffer Marine fairleads a while ago and they were about £120, ouch! - especially when tou can buy fairleads for £30 a pair. At the end of the day they were so much better than the others that I quickly forgot about the cost.

Cheers

Chas
