Sorry i havent but if your looking for an engine replacement to increase performance and speed you really should be looking for something around 450-500hp.
I had the pleasure of a trip in Lochin Marine's 366 Harbour Pilot demonstrater a while back fitted with a single Scania DI 12m 585hp and the performance was outstanding.
D9 600hp would be fabulous but there are other factors to consider and whether the benefits outway the costs involved and what your actual requirements are.
Yes we have the 480 hp TAMD75P EDC from Volvo in our Lochin 33. We have been very pleased with the engine, Zero problems in the 9 years we have had it. We have seen 25.4 knots on the Plotter with a light load and clean bottom. Usually 24.5 knots tops when loaded with fuel and crew, and pull her back to 20knots and cruise at this speed all day. Fuel Consumption is around 60 litres per hour at 20knots. Noise levels, We fitted a Large GRP silencer from Halyard, and also lined the entire engine room with 50mm Sound insulation from Halyard. This Quitens the Volvo to a dull rumble, and enables you to hold a conversation at normal talking level in the wheelhouse at full chat.
I believe the engine is obsolete now though, and has been superceded by the D9, so you may have trouble sourcing one.
Good luck with your project though, will look forward to seeing the finished job!
It weighs around 8.5ton according to the crane operator. (he had some sort of guage on the crane) I think idling in gear is around 3.5knots. It is a Twin Disc gearbox, with a down angle. Can't remember the ratio off hand, but i shall find out for you! Propeller is a 5 bladed Bronze propeller supplied by teignbridge. Again, i can't remember the sizes off hand, but will dig out the paper work and find out for you!
Glad to see your D9 engine has arrived...bet you can't wait to get it installed now! I am sure you will be pleased with the performance!
I have twin 370hp Volvo D6's installed in 'Sorcerer' with remote V drives. I am very pleased with the performance as she has made 30.5 knots. The only teething troubles I had were sensor issues but....and I don't wish to tempt fate, seems to have settled down now!
Glad to see your engine has arrived Tobias! I bet it will really transform the boat. Really look forward to seeing photos of your project & hearing how she performs.
Dave, you must have the fastest Lochin 33 ever built?? Congrats! That is a really impressive turn of speed. Your boat is stunning! I'm sure you will have many years pleasure out of her, as we have with "Alison Rose" Its always reassuring on a rough day to know how solidly built these Lochin boats are.
Simon did say 'Sorcerer' was the fastest 333 so far, but then I guess with all that horsepower she should be fast! I knew from the start I wanted her to be quick and I wasn't too concerned about fuel burn......I just 'fill er up' when I need to, otherwise I would have put a Seagull outboard on the back!!!
Do you know the biggest single engine in a 333? A big single like a D9 575hp may be quicker with the lesser weight??
As you say, it is reassuring to know that on a rough day Lochins are solidly built and as we have the speed, can be 40 or 50 miles out and make it home in around two or two and a half hours.
Thanks for the compliments about 'Sorcerer' but as you know 'Alison Rose' was the inspiration behind her.
I have had her almost a year now already....where did 2011 go??
It going to be a nice engine in Lochin . I think that we should reach around 25-27kn top speed and 20kn cruising.Have any one seen Wouters Lochin on youtube? Fantastic movies his boat moves soo smoth...
Just checked out the you tube films of Wouters boat you told us about. Yes, she looks good. I am wondering if she is up for sale though??? Unless I stumbled on an old advert from way back, before Wouter had her. If she is for sale it would be an excellent boat for someone!
Certainly a lovely piece of Volvo machinery, look forward to seeing some performance figures and pictures when your sea trialing.
My Lochin has twin 200hp Volvo's and If I could afford it ,currently not at present i would like a pair of D4 300hp dropped into mine. My only thought is 300hp is alot of horsepower coming out of a 4 cylinder engine! I love the 6 cylinders for there smoothness, performance and sound but having 4 cylinder engines would make accessing front of the engines easier.
I think the D4 300 would be a great choice have drive a doubleinstallation in a 10ton boat planing hull and it did 34kn the performance is fabulous and with the compressorengage during the acceleration is like a kick in the .......if you want to know fule comsumtion and other data i will get it for you. Do you have any pictures of your engine installation i havent seen a sterndrive in a Lochin before
BestRegards : Tobias

If it was a choice of 4 or 6 cyl I'd go for the 6 cylinder everytime for reliability and smoothhess. The 6's always seem less stressed as well, however, if you are fitting a pair then 4cyls will have a huge weight saving advantage and maybe with newer technology be just as reliable and will definately be easier to access and can be mounted to get the best weight distribution. As with all boating issues it is down to, budget, personal choice, availability and a whole host of other stuff. Compromise is the name of the game. I wish it was a choice I was having to make looks like I'm stuck with my old Sabre but she is running OK so why fix it if it aint broke?
Good luck with the installation Tobias
Does anyone have a rudder indicator fitted? The ones I have been looking at all seem to mount at the top of the rudder shaft and would interfere with fitting the emergecy tiller if it needed to be used? Any thoughts?
Sorry i did get it wrong ... your install looks really nice the Tamd 41 are reliable engines ...I have build my new engine jigg, i don't know the Eng word for it but its the tool to fix the new engine bed...D9...
Re Rudder Angle indicator...... My Lochin being twin set up has the sensor mounted remotely with link and ball joint back onto the steering arm .My previous boat single engine had the same (VDO) and the angle sensor rod on a pin tapped into the steering arm. This didnt cause any problems to my emergency tiller set up.

Thanks for that, I was looking at the unit and assuming it was fastened to the top of the rudder shaft !!!! ignorance is bliss eh?
Thanks for putting me straight.
On a separate note, looks like I am finally going to get to the boat show, the only day we can make it and get home for the kids to go back to school is the Friday 6th. If anyone else is going we could meet for a coffee.
Its going to be a tight installation only my hand goes between the revers gear and hull, after 5 hours of building a model of the revers-gear and oil-sump it seems to fit ... The old Tamd 71 is renovated and for sale i shall do a test run next week...i hope i starts and run well after being i thousand pieces and mount with new components ... I will install trolling valve on the Mg 5065 reverse gear.
figuring what propeller i need to get maximum efficiency i can only get a 25" diameter any one sitting on a propeller calculating program?
Ref the rudder angle indicator you mentioned before got me thinking. What was mine like? So here is how mine is done and as you know i have twin engines so the other side is without the rudder ref.
Glad you mentioned it actually as it looks like I need to get in there and do a good clean up!!
Regards.
Dave.
Woooah. I see I am a senior member now........must talk too much then!!

The old engine is running like a clock and very nice response no oil leakage after being total renovate... It would be fun to test it in the boat but it to much work the new owner will get the tamd 71a next week. Now we can concentrate on our new engine D9(575) and rest of the project...
