just wondering where everyone had gone....its very quiet again!!
Went out at the weekend...it was flat and we cruised at 25 knots on 'Sorcerer'.....don't know how much fuel we were using...not sure if I really want too!!
Hopefully I have posted a link to see 'Sorcerer' at cruise!
Glad to see your making the most of the fantastic weather and flat sea's. Cruising at 25knots absolutely fantastic , i hope everything bedded down ok.
As for the forum it certainly has gone quiet, i have tried with a couple of posts, lets hope with the season getting underway some others will have some input.
Still here! Lady Jayne went back in the water last Thursday, cruised home through a mix of thick fog and then glorious sunshine. Just back from a survey trip on Elizabeth G around Skerryvore, West of Tiree, flat calm with whales, Basking Shark (very early) dolphins and porpoise. Just about finished painting now, a bit of the wheelhouse and the decks then home to Ulva Ferry. Still waiting for the electrician to fit the auto pilot, had to buy a double check valve which set me back another £200 where will it end?
Geoff, I'm still giving the boat a bit of a shake down period before venturing too far.....have'nt even been fishing on her yet!!!
Martin, good to hear you are back in the water and we too had fog for a few days, but it was'nt bad when we took the boat out last weekend. I bet that was a great trip seeing all those 'biguns'around skerryvore all at once.
When you get that autopilot working believe me, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.....and it steers a better course than you could ever hope to!!
Good luck for the season to you both and everyone else reading....lets hope we can catch some decent fish!!
I agree about the autopilit. I did have a Raymarine4000/wheelpilot set up which was not ideal for hydraulic steering but at least it gave me a break - until it packed in early last year. I ended up doing 370 hours steering by hand which was just so tying and tiring. This new machine should be the bees knees and relieve some of the pressure.
Can't wait for the fishing to start round here. Usually we get a few pollack and coalies coming back in May but the real fishing starts when the mackerel come back in June. From then it just gets better each month till December. I have been talking to some old fishermen and got some info on the old fish tows the Fleetwood trawlers used in the 40's and 50's if the scallop dredgers haven't ruined everything they should be worth a look. Also there are a couple of un fished wrecks which I need to locate and try.
