Hi Dave

The Aquabell 27 was designed by Robert Tucker. Apparantely, he then designed a 33ft version but before Aquabell got their hands on it, the design was bought by Lochin.

The Aquabell 33 seems to be a stretched version of the 27 so it's only a 10' - 6" beam as opposed to 12' ish.

As far as I know, they're pretty good and seem to fetch less than Lochins so potentially that makes them a good buy.

Lochins are only "wet" if they haven't got the spray deflector rails fitted. I know because I fitted a set to mine and they transformed it. I don't know if similar rails are available for the Aquabell.

Did you ever go and look at that Lochin?

no didn't bother going to see the lochin as
i got told about the aquabell and it was on hayling
so i thougth i would look at it first .

the owner said the beam of the aquabell was 11ft 6inch.

Hi Dave,

I owned an Aquabell 27 prior to my Lochin and loved it too bits, a great boat if sometimes a little wet!.
The 33 ft Aquabell has sparay rails fitted along the edge of the waterline which does reduce alot of spray getting aboard. Nothing really to report against them,well built solid rugged boats. With a decent amount of horsepower aboard can see 25 plus knots.

There are other variants being 28 and 30 ft which are shortened moulds of the 33ft'er, the 27 was a stand alone mould and replaced by the 28 which meant single engine versions could take a larger prop due to a deeper keel.
The early twin engined 33's often ran 210 turbo intercooled fords which are a smokey from cold,212hp being the later variant and much cleaner. Great engines, cheap spares and tough though,

beam is 10'6 !

so I hear that Lochin 339 we thought was a misprint on FAFB is actually reality according to Simon and the new spring newsletter. Maybe I should have hung on a little longer!

Hi Dave,

My Dads first boat was an Aquabell 27 back in 1972. As Geoff mentioned a very capable sea boat. We had horrendous seas with her, but we never felt in danger. My friend in Holland also had a 33 Aquabell with twin 210 Mermaids, and she did about 26 knots from what I remember. If I couldn't have a Lochin I would certainly have an Aquabell.

Hi DMC,
the spring newsletter was sent to me by Lochin so I guess it will be on here anytime now...in fact I am suprised it isn't already! I think the hull is fairly similar but the wheelhouse has a forward slant (bottom to top) the opposite way to the conventional shape. Think it was kept pretty quiet!
