Favourite Anchorages

Hi Everyone

What about posting some pics of your favourite anchorages?

I have added some to get the ball rolling, hopefully I can add more as the summer progresse and I get a chance to explore our local area more.

This bay is on the south of Mull and only easily accessible by sea so seldom gets any visitors. The sand is pure white and the sea crystal clear, the weather helps of course.

The two boys are my ''crew'' and the red boat is a Pioner 13 with a 15hp Mariner which I now use as tender to Lady Jayne. We used it extensively as a camping trailer as well as for going fishing and pootling etc.

Looking forward to your pics.

Martin

Martin, absoloutly stunning pics! 33ft Lochin and the Pioneer tender, what an ideal cruising and island/beach hopping setup! I must admit of all the activities we do with our Lochin, Fishing etc, Cruising and visiting new locations is by far and away the most enjoyment we get from the boat. Its such a buzz visiting or camping at a new location. We've almost given up trying to sleep aboard our Lochin and mostly opt for camping ashore too. The little waves slapping against the hull make it almost impossible to sleep! Anyways, on to our favourite anchorage pictures, in the first two pictures is "Acarsaid Mhor" on the little island of Rona just off Skye. A stunning location with an all tide/ weather jetty. The Second two are at "The Blue Lagoon" on Pabbay which is an island just off the west side of the Isle of Lewis.

Fond memories of these places

Hi Robbie

The blue lagoon looks wonderful. We are incredibly lucky to have these places to visit and the boats to do it in. You should write a cruising guide for your area, it would be a best seller.

Let's see if anyone can post anything as good from anywhere else.

Regards

Martin

Hi boys (& girls?)

HT has asked me to write and apologise for not getting in touch for some time. He has spent every waking minute either working or at the Lochin. He is today at the lochin for the final day of preparations for the road trip. After nearly 3 years of painstaking restoration our boat is being moved to the marina tomorrow!!! There he will sand off the old anti-fouling on the hull. He is sooo excited!!! She still is not totally finished, some finishing touches to inside, but at least she will be in the water probably by the end of the week, and HT can finish the bits and pieces then.

All your beautiful pictures have actually taken me by surprise, I must say. I keep hearing that the UK is all grey and cold. Obviously not so! There seems to be some very beautiful places for your boating pleasure. As nice as anything we have here.

One day (soon) we will be able to send you some of our Lochin at anchor.

Keep smiling.

Kelly Timmer

That is sounding good Harold and Kelly

Much champaign and beer will be called for plus a few pics posted on the forum.

The UK certianly has a lot of beautuful places both coastal and inland. We also have a multitude of very attractive towns and villages which date back hundreds if not thousands of years.

However you're not wrong about the weather, it's all too often cold and wet and grey.

Our pubs are warm and welcoming when it's raining though, that is if you can find one that hasn't closed down.

Oh well!

Cheers and all the best

Chas

Hi all,
Just come back from probably my favourite anchorage area around the channel islands.
The Ecrehou are a reef approx 7 miles from Jersey, and 27 from Guernsey.
The pictures will explain why :)

Best regards to all

Hi Stugsy

What a fantastic place. Are the buildings lived in? it looks as though the sea could go right over the top in a storm.

I bet the fishing is good in that area as well, do you fish?

The mackerel are here early this year so I am hoping we have a good season.

Cheers

Martin

Hi Martin,

Yes the buildings are used for over night stays during the summer. Last winter they lost a couple due to storms, and a few damaged too. They have now been repaired and all but one rebuilt.
Fishing is good, lots of bass mackeral etc, also plenty of lobsters for anyone with a pot or two.

I do a little fishing but am not a dedicated angler.

Regards,

Stu
