Finally got the lettering done so decided to head for Loch Drumbuie on Sunday as the weather was fantastic. Got a chance to play with my new radar/plotter works great. Amazingly it was cheaper to buy a combined unit than a stand alone radar!!!!
Passed our local yacht club who were doing the round Risga race and someone sent me this pic.
Hi Martin, enjoyed your pictures! In fact i went on to google earth afterwards to see exactly where Loch Drumbuie was! Looks like you guys had fantastic weather aswell. What kind of anchor are you using on your lochin? There seems to be a mind boggling choice of shapes and styles out there. Hopefully it will be a long hot summer in Scotland
The weather was stunning, a long hot summer would be great. Loch Drumbuie is just in the entrance to Loch Sunart, less than an hour from Tobermory. The entrance is through a narrow channel but once inside it really opens up and you can find shelter somewhere no matter what the weather. I wanted to head further up the loch but everyone else was happy to just chill so that's what we did.
I have a 46lb CQR anchor and 48 metres of 8mm chain for the main anchor. Second anchor is a ''m'' claw with about 8 metres of heavier chain and warp.
What a bonny place. Tobermory is one of our top all time target destinations but we've never made the journey yet. Its over 100 miles from us so would have to be an overnighter. We are based On the Isle of Lewis, in a village about 7 miles north of the largest town of Stornoway, in Brevig Harbour. In fact if you go onto google earth and put in 'Brevig Harbour Lewis' or postcode 'HS2 0JS' it will take you right to the harbour and the only picture of the area shows our boat in the background! Claim to fame!
Tobermory has some pontoons which have been added in recent years which make visiting easier. There are also some new showers and loos close by which the Tobermory Harbour Association have built. We have a re-fueling berth as well!
If you manage to make it down let me know before hand. My own base is going to be in Ulva sound on the West coast of Mull about 2 1/2 hours away. There are some wonderful places to visit and some memorable anchorages. I will attatch a picture of one of my favourites which I yet to visit in the Lochin
Why don't we start a ''my favourite anchorage'' thread?
Wow! that second shot is just stunning! We'll definately give you a shout if we ever venture down your way. Local knowledge is always handy! Favourite anchorage thread sounds like a plan! you start it, & ill dig out photos!
